Japanese Gr1s Added To Breeders' Cup
The Breeders' Cup and the Japan Racing Association (JRA) announced on Monday that three Japanese Gr races would be added to the 2016 Breeders' Cup Challenge series, joining the Takarazuka Kinen which has been a part of the program since 2011, reports Blood Horse. The Breeders' Cup Challenge comprises of 81 international stakes races whose winners are granted an automatic entry into the BC World Championships, which this year will be held at Santa Anita Park in California from 4-5 November. The three new races on the schedule are the Gr1 February Stakes, the Gr1 Yasuda Kinen, and the Gr1 Sprinters Stakes to be run at Nakayama racecourse on 2 October. Given that the February Stakes and Yasuda Kinen have already been contested, the respective winners of those two races, Moanin and Logotype, will receive retroactive entries to the Breeders' Cup. "Working in concert with the Japan Racing Association, we are very pleased and proud to strengthen the international reach of the Challenge series by adding the February Stakes, Yasuda Kinen, and the Sprinters Stakes to our schedule," said Craig Fravel, Breeders' Cup president and CEO.
