Perth Cup Target For Rejuvenated WA Stayer

Wednesday, 29th June 2016

Fred Kersley will aim Ihtsahymn (Ihtiram-Umatune, by Umatilla) at this year's Perth Cup after the 5YO showed a pleasing return to form at Belmont on Saturday, reports the West Australian. The former WA Horse of the Year and Gr1 Kingston Town Classic winner registered his first win since March 2014 when landing Saturday's Gr3 Strickland Stakes over 2000 metres. It was also Kersley's third win in the race after Marasco's successive victories in 2009 and 2010. "He is a very happy and healthy horse and is easy to train," said Kersley. "A Perth Cup wouldn't be out of the question." He added: "With age they do get a bit more dour and the depth of stayers here is a bit thin when you get to an event like that." A homebred for Neville Duncan's Oakland Park Stud, Ihtsahymn is out of the stakes wining Umatilla mare Umatune and is a half-brother to Listed WATC Gimcrack Stakes victor Jestatune (Rory's Jester).
