Galileo Gold Thriving

Thursday, 30th June 2016

Trainer Hugo Palmer has revealed that star colt Galileo Gold (Paco Boy-Galicuix, by Galileo) continues to make good physical development ahead of next month's Gr1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, reports Racing Post. The English 2000 Guineas hero doubled his Gr1 tally when scoring a strong win in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last start, and Palmer says his condition is showing no sign of taking a backward step.  "Galileo Gold had a quiet four or five days and hasn't done a vast amount since Royal Ascot," Palmer said in his Betfair blog. "He's putting on weight and getting stronger by the week, as he has done for about the past year now." Galileo Gold will bid to go one better than his sire Paco Boy who ran second to Rip Van Winkle in the 2009 edition of the Sussex Stakes, and Palmer is confident he can do just that. "We've had only one target in mind for him since Ascot - the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on July 27, which his owner sponsors - and I couldn't be happier with him." Palmer added: "The rest after Ascot will probably have done him good, too, as he had three runs in Group 1 company in just six weeks."
