PB Lawrence First-Up Target For The Cleaner
Manny Gelagotis has provided an update on the progress of Tasmanian cult hero The Cleaner who is on the comeback trail from injury. The Cleaner has not raced since pulling up lame when unplaced in the Listed Conquering Stakes (1400m) at Launceston in December. Manny's brother Peter Gelagotis subsequently took over the training duties of the multiple Group winner and reigning Tasmanian Horse of the Year following a public dispute between the horse's owners and long-time trainer Mick Burles. Manny Gelagotis said the rising 9YO was in excellent health and confirmed the plan was to resume in the weight-for-age Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 13 August, before bidding for a third consecutive win in the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes. "He's great. He's going very well. The rehabilitation program with the horse has gone exceptionally well and he has all the medical clearances," Gelagotis told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "He's had two really nice soft conditioning gallops to date. He still has a lot of zest for racing and we are thrilled where he is at." He added: "At the moment we are focusing on the same programme as last year so we are hoping to go to the PB Lawrence first-up. The owners are also very keen to go for a three-peat in the Dato' Tan Chin Nam which I think is very logical given the horse loves Moonee Valley."
