Hauraki Wins Gr1 Epsom Handicap

Tuesday, 4th October 2016

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Darley's unbeaten multiple Gr1-winning stallion Reset (Zabeel-Assertive Lass, by Zeditave) celebrated an elite success when 5YO Godolphin gelding Hauraki (Reset-Youthful Presence, by Dehere) scored by 0.1 length for trainer John O'Shea in the $1 million Gr1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) for 3YO+, over 7YO Irish-bred gelding Dibayani (Shamardal-Dibiya, by Caerleon) & 4YO New Zealand-bred gelding Mackintosh (Pins-Lolly Scramble, by Generous). Hauraki advanced his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Tramway Stakes & Gr2 Tulloch Stakes) and 9 placings (including the Gr1 ATC Ranvet Stakes, Gr1 ATC Australian Derby & Gr1 Doomben Cup) from 20 starts for $2,006,660 earnings. From the Dehere mare Youthful Presence, Hauraki is a half-brother to Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Kidnapped, Gr2 West Australian Guineas winner Academus, and Listed winner Deledio, and is a direct descendant of Klairessa, dam of legendary broodmare Eight Carat, champion European sprinter Habibti, and great grand-dam of Gr1 winners Bonanova, Fraternity and Telesto.
