Mongolian Falcon Wins Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas
At Hastings in New Zealand, Coolmore's Gr1-winning son of Danehill and former champion Australian sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Group success when 3YO colt Mongolian Falcon (Fastnet Rock-Amazing Beauty, by Galileo) romped home by 5 lengths in the NZ$100,000 Gr2 Hawke's Bay Guineas (1400m) for 3YOs, over fellow colts Jon Snow (Iffraaj-Orinda, by O'Reilly) & Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock-Myrrh, by Nassipour). Mongolian Falcon's brilliant win advanced his record to 3 wins and 3 placings from 7 starts for NZ$104,250 earnings. The 1400 metre feature had been billed as a match race between the unbeaten pair of Heroic Valour Ugo Foscolo, but it was the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Industry-owned colt who left them all in his wake, reported NZ Racing Desk. "That was impressive, wow," co-trainer Donna Logan said. Mongolian Falcon's New Zealand 2000 Guineas odds have been cut from $18 to a $5 favourite. "I'll have to talk to the owner, he might want him to go to Australia," said Logan of the colt who has a nomination for the Gr1 Victoria Derby. "The further he goes the better, I've always said that." Mongolian Falcon was purchased by the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Industry for $150,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. From the Gr3-placed Galileo mare Amazing Beauty (IRE), Mongolian Falcon hails from the same female line as 1993 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Phone Chatter and Gr1 July Stakes winner Auction Ring, herself the dam of 5 stakes winners including Gr1 Lockinge Stakes winner Belmont Bay and Gr1 Falmouth Stakes winner Meis El-Reem.
