Serenely Discreet Wins Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes

Tuesday, 4th October 2016

At Flemington in Melbourne, Darley's former Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Group success when 3YO filly Serenely Discreet (Exceed and Excel-I'm Discreet, by Elusive Quality) scored by 1.25 lengths for trainer Phillip Stokes in the $2000,000 Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Bella Sorellastra (Lope de Vega-Holbrook Lass, by Rory's Jester) & Waterloo Sunset (Fastnet Rock-Unearthly, by Zabeel). This was the first stakes victory for Serenely Discreet who improved her record to 3 wins from 5 starts for $205,100 earnings. Trainer Phillip Stokes said Serenely Discreet is likely to back up in next week's Gr1 Thousand Guineas before progressing to the Gr1 VRC Oaks during Melbourne Cup week. "She runs if she pulls up well, but she might be best placed over a bit further now," Stokes told racing.com. "She's definitely an Oaks filly." He added: "She's out of the same family as Maybe Discreet and she was a Manifold winner (2012) but this one's got a lot more scope."
