Rupee Impresses In Jump-Out

Wednesday, 5th October 2016

Star sprinter Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice-Estelle Collection, by Stravinsky) continued his build up to the spring when winning an 800 metre jump-out at Caulfield yesterday morning. Also taking part in the first jump-out of the morning was top mare Azkadellia, former smart juvenile Flying Artie, and Greg Bennett's exciting NSW sprinter Clearly Innocent. But it was 5-time Gr1 winner Lankan Rupee who emerged victorious, prevailing by a narrow half head margin over Azkadellia in a time of 47.46 seconds. The 7YO, who hasn't raced since being diagnosed with bone necrosis last October, is set to resume in the Gr2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday week (15 October). "He's a good trial horse and bounced straight to the front," trainer Mick Price told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "Azkadellia came out of the pack and challenged him, which was good to see because she is a high class horse. But Lankan Rupee went good. He pulled up good in the wind and I'm happy with the preparation he's had." Lankan Rupee's primary spring target is the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on 5 November.
