Talented Colt Bound For Hong Kong
Smart New Zealand 3YO The Soultaker (Iffraaj-Miranda Miss, by Reset) will continue his racing career overseas, reports NZ Racing Desk. Connections had been approached by a buyer prior to his last-start victory in the Gr3 Bonecrusher Stakes and the grey colt is now bound for Hong Kong. "We agreed a price before the race – win, lose or draw," said George Simon, who bred the son of Iffraaj with his wife Maryanne and they remained in the ownership syndicate. Trained at Ruakaka by Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs, The Soultaker is a winner of 2 of his 7 starts for nearly NZ$100,000 in earnings. Apart from his victory in the Bonecrusher Stakes, he also landed the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes and was runner-up to Gr1-winning colt Heroic Valour in the Listed Northland Breeders Stakes. The Soultaker is out of the Reset mare Miranda Miss, who is leased from Pencarrow Stud principal Sir Peter Vela. "We've got a two-year-old sister to The Soultaker in work with Shelley Hale and we're going to race her with friends who we raced Ted'll Do and Midnitemagicman with," Simon said. "We were going to send the mare back to Pencarrow, but my wife Maryanne decided we'd go again and she sent Miranda Miss to Tavistock. That yearling colt will be in the Premier Sale draft of Cambridge Stud." He added: "She's due to foal again to Tavistock and will go back to him. None of this would have been possible without Sir Peter Vela."
