Impending Draw Not A Concern: Plumptre
Godolphin's Managing Director in Australia Henry Plumptre is confident that Caulfield Guineas favourite Impending will handle the Melbourne way of going in Saturday's $1 million Gr1 feature at Caulfield. The Sydney colt has emerged as one of the most exciting 3YOs in training courtesy of his fast-finishing third to stable-mate Astern in the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m), and a slashing victory in the Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) last start. "His last few gallops have all been in the left-handed Melbourne direction and he's handled it without any problem, so we're not too concerned about that aspect," Plumptre told Godolphin.com. Impending, who is currently the $4.40 TAB favourite ahead of Divine Prophet at $4.80 and Kiwi gelding Sacred Elixir at $6.50, will have to overcome barrier 10 if he is to claim a maiden top-flight success. "Everyone has seen what he's capable of, both when he was placed behind our top colt Astern and when he had the race to himself in the Stan Fox Stakes. We're very happy with the horse and not concerned at all that he's drawn a bit wide," added Plumptre. While Impending is unlikely to progress much further this spring, the stable is well-represented in the Gr1 Victoria Derby at Flemington on 29 October with eight colts still holding entries for the classic.
