Karaka Graduate On Target For Breeders' Cup

Thursday, 6th October 2016

Gun Pit looks like he has earned himself a trip to California for next month's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Karaka graduate remained on course for the Santa Anita feature after an impressive gallop under Zac Purton in a 1200 metre all-weather trial in Hong Kong on Tuesday. "He's trialling with a little bit more purpose now and he seems to be moving better, so it looks at this stage like he's going to go to America," Purton said. "He feels fine - there's nothing wrong with the way he's going." Gun Pit (Dubawi-Magic Tori, by Ali-Royal) was purchased by agent Michael Steadman out of Lyndhurst Farm's 2012 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale draft for $250,000. He trialled twice in New Zealand before he was sent to Hong Kong. He has won 8 of his 25 starts hitherto and been placed at Gr1 level when second in the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 3 Stakes at Meydan in March.
