Weir Stable-Mates To Appreciate Herbert Trip
Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance and South Australian Derby winner Howard Be Thy Name had their final hit-outs for Saturday's Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield when galloping over 1600 metres between races at Warrnambool yesterday. The Gr1-winning stable-mates will be sure to appreciate the step up to a mile-and-half after finishing down the track behind Black Heart Bart in the Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at their most recent outing. "I'm absolutely delighted with that," said Jarrod McLean, stable foreman for trainer Darren Weir. "Obviously Prince Of Penzance is really on track to be competitive on Saturday and then we have a really exciting two weeks heading into the Moonee Valley Cup." He added: "Big Howard, he was just winding up late, but I'm really happy with him as well and I reckon both will acquit themselves really well on Saturday." Howard Be Thy Name is currently the $4 second favourite for the Herbert Power behind Lloyd & Nick Williams' Irish import Assign at $2.70. Prince Of Penzance is on the fifth line of betting at $9.50.
