Class Drop To Suit The Cleaner

Friday, 7th October 2016

Trainer Peter Gelagotis believes that a significant drop in class can see talented galloper The Cleaner return to his best form in the Listed Cranbourne Cup (2025m) on Sunday. The reigning Tasmanian Horse of the Year has been far from disgraced finishing within about 3 lengths of the winners in the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at his past two outings, but Gelagotis is adamant Sunday's feature represents a much more suitable assignment. "He had a good gallop yesterday [Wednesday] and came through it super," Gelagotis told Melbourne's Radio Sport National yesterday. "I had a really good chat with Steven Arnold [jockey] and we are both of the opinion that he is going as good as he can go, its just that he is a nine-year-old now." He added: "Because of his age he is probably about three lengths off the top level...so this looks like a suitable target. He should be right in the mix." The Cleaner will be ridden by Steven Arnold and has drawn favourably in barrier three.
