Monday, 10th October 2016

At Belmont Park in the US, outstanding 4YO mare Lady Eli (Divine Park-Sacre Coeur, by Saint Ballado) made a welcome return to the winner's circle when scoring by 0.75 length for trainer Chad Brown in the US$500,000 Gr1 Flower Bowl Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, over fellow 4YO mares Sentiero Italia (Medaglia d'Oro-Golden Way, by Cadeaux Genereux) & Sea Calisi (Youmzain-Triclaria, by Surumu). In recording her first victory since making her comeback to racing from laminitis on 27 August, Lady Eli advanced her record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf & Gr1 Belmont Oaks Invitational) and 1 placing from 8 starts for US$1,829,800 earnings. Lady Eli will now bid to win her second Breeders' Cup title when she line sup in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Santa Anita on 5 November. "It'll be her third race off the layoff, she has a mile-and-a-quarter race under her belt now," Brown told Blood Horse. "I'm excited to bring her into the Breeders' Cup... It couldn't happen to a more deserving horse, for her to overcome all this."
