Blinkers To Come Off Top 3YO

Tuesday, 11th October 2016

The blinkers may come off Sacred Elixir in his final lead-up to the next month's Gr1 Victoria Derby, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Tony Pike-trained three-year-old raced keenly when unplaced in Saturday's Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, prompting the possible gear change for his next scheduled assignment in the Gr2 AAMI Vase (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday week (22 October). "A couple of things went against him," jockey Damien Lane said. "He travelled a touch keen and they sprinted really hard on the bend and he got a bit unbalanced but all in all, he's probably looking for a touch further now." A winner of the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m) in Brisbane during the winter, Pike has always maintained the best would not be seen of Sacred Elixir (Pour Moi-Baltika, by Stravinsky) until he stepped out over 2000 metres and further.
