German Stayer Ticking Over Nicely

Tuesday, 11th October 2016

Meanwhile, German trainer Andreas Wohler says he is happy with the condition of Caulfield Cup contender Articus (Areion-Almerita, by Medicean) heading into Saturday's big race, reports AAP. Wohler, who trained Protectionist to win the 2014 Melbourne Cup, arrived in Melbourne on Sunday night and was on hand to watch the French-bred 4YO work at the international quarantine centre at Werribee yesterday morning. "I didn't want him to do too much because he looks pretty fit. I just wanted to keep him ticking over, but he seems to be in great condition and looks very bright and feels very happy," Wohler said. Articus, who, like Protectionist, is owned by the Newcastle-based Australian Bloodstock, has won 4 of his 9 starts including the Gr3 Maxios Trophy over 2000 metres. He is coming off a last start 5th (beaten 1.5 lengths) in the Gr1 Bayerisches Zuchtrennen at Munich over 2000 metres.
