Vandyke Has Faith In Rose

Tuesday, 11th October 2016

Trainer David Vandyke is growing in confidence about the prospects of Yankee Rose (All American-Condesaar, by Xaar) in the Cox Plate following her impressive return to form on the weekend. The star filly claimed the second Gr1 title of her career when powering home to win the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday. Vandyke says he is excited about running Yankee Rose in the Cox Plate in two weeks time, and that he is not scared of taking on heavyweights Winx and Hartnell in what is widely regarded as Australia's weight-for-age championship. "She ran home in sub 22 seconds for her last 400 metres on Saturday. She was the only horse to break 11 seconds for a furlong...and that was at the end of 2000 metres," Vandyke told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "She will be dropping from 54.5 kilograms to 47.5 kilograms...Winx is a champion and we have all seen what Hartnell has done, but they will have to bring their A-game because if there is any chink in their armour our filly will find it out." He added: "She's never been in better shape...she is in devastating form." Winx is not surprisingly the dominant favourite for the Cox Plate at $1.90, ahead of Hartnell at $3. Yankee Rose is on the fourth line of betting at $17. The 96th running of the Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) will be run at Moonee Valley on 22 October.
