Fanatic Set For Australian Debut
Gr1 winning New Zealand mare Fanatic (Shocking-Komplete Klass, by Groom Dancer) has been confirmed as a definite runner in Saturday's $3 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) in Melbourne, reports theinformant.co.nz. The winner on protest of last season's New Zealand Oaks, Fanatic has had just the two runs this preparation with her latest outing resulting in an unlucky ninth behind Kawi in the Gr1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m). Trainer Graeme Sanders had been in two minds whether to run the 4YO in Saturday's feature after she struggled to settle in to her temporary home at Caulfield, but he gave the green light after a satisfactory gallop yesterday morning. "She was a bit unsettled to start with but has lightened up. I'm a lot happier with her now," Sanders said. "Last night [Tuesday] was the first time she had cleaned her feed up and even though she didn't do a lot, her work was tidy." He added: "She's not a horse that needs a lot anyway; she's a natural stayer, so I think we're heading in the right direction. The main thing is she's bright in herself and her coat's beautiful." Fanatic is currently equal 21st in the order of entry for the Caulfield Cup, but is expected to make the 18-horse field when the likes of Hartnell, Who Shot Thebarman and Grand Marshal are officially withdrawn.
