Flying Artie Can Win Sapphire: Price

Wednesday, 12th October 2016

Trainer Mick Price says he won't be surprised to see Flying Artie resume with a win in today's Gr3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield despite an extended absence from the track. The son of Artie Schiller will make his 3YO debut after proving himself to be one of the best 2YOs in the country last season when finishing runner-up to stable-mate Extreme Choice in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes and third to Capitalist in the Gr1 Golden Slipper. "He had four months off after the Golden Slipper because he had a bit of sesamoiditis," Price told racing.com. "The horse is going great. It's sometimes tough to measure how forward they are first-up but he's a very good colt who'll go very close to winning." He added: "The last 100 metres under race-day pressure is the query." Flying Artie will use the Blue Sapphire as his only lead-up to his primary spring target - the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on 29 October.
