Injury Ends Hucklebuck Career

Wednesday, 12th October 2016

Reigning South Australian Horse of the Year Hucklebuck (Elvstroem-Kondari, by O'Reilly) has been retired after suffering a tendon injury in Saturday's Gr2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield. "He's got a tear in his suspensory and it would require four months off and he's had a few niggling problems for a while now so we thought it would be better to retire him," trainer Phillip Stokes told racing.com. "We will always remember his Emirates Stakes win and he'll head to Emirates Park in South Australia before we make a decision on where he can enjoy a long and happy retirement." Hucklebuck retires with 8 wins from 20 starts for over $1.1 million prize money. His biggest win was in the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) during Melbourne Cup week in 2014.
