Euro Angel Wins Gr3 Lady's Day Vase

Thursday, 13th October 2016

At Caulfield in Melbourne yesterday, Windsor Park Stud's triple Gr1-winning shuttler Rip Van Winkle (Galileo-Looking Back, by Stravinsky) added a Group success when 4YO mare Euro Angel (Rip Van Winkle-Polish Princess, by Polish Precedent) scored by a widening 1.5 lengths for trainers John, Wayne & Michael Hawkes in the $150,000 Gr3 Lady's Day Vase (1600m) for 4YO+ mares, over 6YO mare Rocket Commander (Court Command-Pinot Royale, by Red Ransom) & 4YO Godolphin mare Antelucan (Domesday-Dawn Attack, by Fantastic Light). A $200,000 purchase by Hawkes Racing at the 2014 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale, the well bred Euro Angel boosted her value considerably with this maiden stakes success and improved her record to 3 wins and 3 placings from 6 starts for $199,435 earnings. From the stakes winning Polish Precedent mare Polish Princess, Euro Angel is a half-sister to dual Gr2 Hollindale Stakes winner Leebaz (Zabeel) and Gr2 Tulloch Stakes winner Polish Knight (Encosta de Lago) and is a direct descendant of outstanding producer Reprocolor, one of the foundation mares of the Weinfeld family's Meon Valley Stud in England. This is the family of European Classic winners Cezanne, Colorspin, Kayf Tara, Opera House, Zee Zee Top, and Gr1 Prix de l'Opera runner-up Jazzi Top. Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said connections would now look for more black-type races over the carnival. "Where she goes now I'm not sure, but she will go on to bigger and better things," Hawkes told racing.com. "Leebaz won a couple of Hollindale's and Polish Knight ran second in the Australian Derby, so she is a very valuable broodmare now."
