Flying Artie Wins Gr3 Blue Sapphire Stakes

Thursday, 13th October 2016

At Caulfield in Melbourne yesterday, US Gr1-winning Emirates Park shuttler Artie Schiller (El Prado-Hidden Light, by Majestic Light) added a Group success when 3YO colt Flying Artie (Artie Schiller-Flying Ruby, by Rubiton) scored by 1.25 length for trainer Mick Price in the $350,000 Gr3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs, over 3YO gelding Dalradian (Reward for Effort-Miss Ireland, by O'Reilly) & fellow 3YO colt Derryn (Hinchinbrook-Munhro, by Lonhro). This was a highly encouraging return by Flying Artie who had not raced since finishing third to Capitalist in the Golden Slipper in March. He improved his record to 2 wins (including the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for colts & geldings) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Golden Slipper & Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes) from 5 starts for $949,000 earnings. From the stakes winning Rubiton mare Flying Ruby, Flying Artie was a $50,000 purchase at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Goodwood Farm. Flying Artie is expected to have his next start in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on 29 October. "He's come off a long break so the first thing I'll be doing is allowing him as much time as he needs to bounce back and get over it," trainer Mick Price said. "The experience will do him good for the Coolmore and the run will do him good fitness-wise.''
