Marju Passes Away

Former shuttler Marju (Last Tycoon-Flame Of Tara, by Artaius) has died of natural causes at his home at Derrinstown Stud in County Kildare, Ireland, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. A winner of the 1988 Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, Marju will be best remembered as the sire of superstar mare and 5-timer Gr1 winner Soviet Song, as well as 5-time Gr1 winner and Hong Kong Horse of the Year Viva Pataca. Marju has also made his name as a broodmare sire, with his daughters producing recent Gr1 winners Marsha and Ribchester, as well as Canford Cliffs, Marcel, Ribbons and Vedelago. From the top producer Flame Of Tara, Marju hails form the family of champion filly Salsabil and successful sires Hemingway, Second Empire, Balestrini, and Ihtiram.
