Acatour Heavily Supported For Gothic Stakes
Co-trainer Paul Snowden is confident that exciting colt Acatour can continue his charge through the ranks when he makes his stakes debut in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield tomorrow. Raced by a syndicate headed by James Harron Bloodstock and Newgate Farm, Acatour is a winner of 3 of his 4 starts, including a devastating last start victory in a benchmark 76 race at Rosehill Gardens in which he ran the 1500 metres in a faster time (1:29.02) than Impending did (1:29.23) when he won the Gr2 Stan Fox Stakes at the same track just a few days earlier. "He took the older horses on and beat them quite comfortably. He's a horse who we've had a rap on now for quite a while," Snowden told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "He will be a better horse in the autumn but he's a serious horse in his own right. Going forward he has a little bit of stoutness in his pedigree so in time he should get out to 2000 metres and beyond." He added: "He is a horse with a good turn of foot. He is certainly not a dour type. You watch his last run, he actually ran a quicker time than Impending did when he won the race before the Guineas [the Stan Fox], so he can run time." Acatour is a dominant $2.50 favourite for the Gothic Stakes ahead of Godolphin colt Morton's Fork at $3.60, and Nikitas at $8.
