Astern Touches Down In Melbourne

Friday, 14th October 2016

Star Sydney colt Astern has arrived safe in well in Melbourne to prepare for his next start in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on 29 October. Trainer John O'Shea said the 3YO would take part in a jump-out at Flemington on Friday week. "We'll probably give him a look down the straight at Flemington on Friday week. He's does very well between runs and he probably does need to stretch his legs," O'Shea told racenet. "We're happy with where he's at. When he got beat the other day he didn't embarrass himself. He seems to be holding his form." He added: "I think the three-year-olds have been strong all year and at the moment he's the king of the castle and hopefully he maintains his stature." Already a Gr1 winner of the Golden Rose last month, Astern (Medaglia d'Oro-Essaouira, by Exceed and Excel) is coming off a fast-finishing second to unbeaten colt Russian Revolution in the Gr2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Epsom day.
