Seaburge No Certainty For Caulfield Classic
Trainer David Hayes says a discussion among Seaburge's (Sebring-Polska, by Encosta de Lago) owners will determine if the promising colt runs in tomorrow's Gr3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) in Melbourne. The son of Sebring is a $3.20 favourite for the $500,000 feature after his slashing second to Divine Prophet in last weekend's Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m). However, due to his racing pattern, Hayes says drawing barrier one actually puts the 3YO at a distinct disadvantage. "We haven't made up our mind whether or not to run. He is a horse who doesn't like racing inside horses. Barrier one is usually great, but for him he is really a different horse outside of horses," Hayes told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "So, we may go the conservative route and wait for the AAMI Vase next week. We just have to speak to the ownership group and weigh up our options. But he is a future star so we don't want to race him too recklessly." He added: "He's in great shape. If he does run he will be hard to beat." The set weight Gr2 AAMI Vase (2040m) for 3YOs will be run at Moonee Valley on 22 October and is a traditional lead up to the Victoria Derby.
