Egyptian Symbol Wins Gr3 Nivison Stakes

Monday, 17th October 2016

At Royal Randwick in Sydney on Saturday, Widden Stud's deceased Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning stallion Stratum (Redoutes Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) added a Group success when 4YO mare Egyptian Symbol (Stratum-Our Egyptian Raine, by Desert Sun) resumed with a brilliant 1.3 length win for trainer Bjorn Baker in the $150,000 Gr3 Nivison Stakes (1200m) for 4YO+ mares, over 5YO mares Artistry (Shamardal-Lady Peony, by Belong to Me) & Rule The River (Commands-River Serenade, by Hurricane Sky). This was a well overdue maiden stakes victory for the richly talented Egyptian Symbol who improved her record to 4 wins and 4 placings (including the Gr3 ATC PJ Bell Stakes, Listed ATC Darby Munro Stakes & Listed ATC Fireball Stakes) from 11 starts for $433,355 earnings. Egyptian Symbol, who was retained to race by her breeder Cressfield Farm after she was passed in for $90,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, could now head to Melbourne in search of further black-type success. "She will improve for that. She's a very good filly this. Her trackwork suggests she is better than what we have seen. I think she will go to another level this time in," trainer Bjorn Baker told Sky Racing. "The best is yet to come. She's a big scopey filly who has just taken time to grow into herself." Baker added: "We will see how she comes through the race but we might look at Melbourne...she is a Magic Millions filly as well...but we will just take it one step at a time." Egyptian Symbol is the seventh foal to race for 8-time stakes winner and Gr1 Railway Stakes (NZ) winner Our Egyptian Raine who has also produced Gr1 HKJC Chairman's Sprint Prize placegetter Strathmore.
