Journey Wins Gr1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes

Monday, 17th October 2016

On British Champions Day at Ascot in England on Saturday, Darley's three-time Gr1-winning world-class shuttle sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) celebrated an elite success when 4YO UK-bred mare Journey (Dubawi-Montare, by Montjeu) scored a dominant 4 length win for trainer John Gosden in the £600,000 Gr1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, over fellow 4YO UK-bred mare Speedy Boarding (Shamardal-Dash to the Front, by Diktat) & 3YO UK-bred filly Queen's Trust (Dansili-Queen's Best, by King's Best). Bred and raced by high-profile American owner George Strawbridge, Journey improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr3 Pinnacle Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes) from 13 starts for £590,054 earnings. Trainer John Gosden told Sky Sports: "She's got a mind of her own and is very wilful, extremely talented. She's a wild little creature," he said. "I just told Frankie to get her settled as she'll tell you what she wants to do and you just listen - he rode her beautifully...She showed great acceleration."
