La Diosa Wins Listed John Griggs Stakes

Monday, 17th October 2016

At Ashburton in New Zealand on Saturday, Coolmore Stud stallion and former Australian Champion Racehorse So You Think (High Chaparral-Triassic, by Tights) added a black-type success when 3YO filly La Diosa (So You Think-Star Affair, by Star Way) scored by 1 length for trainers Matt & Mandy Brown in the NZ$50,000 Listed John Griggs Stakes (1400m) for 3YOs, over 3YO colts Heroic Valour (Fastnet Rock-Myrrh, by Nassipour) & Savile Row (Makfi-Fleece, by Daylami). This was the second consecutive stakes victory for La Diosa who improved her record to 3 wins (including the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes) and 1 placing from 5 starts for NZ$74,875 earnings. The winner of the Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes at her previous outing, La Diosa is now the $4.50 favourite for the Gr1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton on 12 November, reports NZ Racing Desk. "A pass mark would have been to beat the other fillies, but to beat the colts like that was great," co-trainer Matt Brown said. "She's gone to another level and this race will tighten her up for the Guineas."
