Monday, 17th October 2016

At Caulfield in Melbourne on Saturday, former Champion Australian Sire & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) added a black-type success when 3YO colt Peacock (Lonhro-Iridescente, by Commands) scored by 0.1 length for trainer John O'Shea in the $120,000 Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) for 3YO colts & geldings, over fellow 3YO colts Violate (Sebring-Shantha's Girl, by Redoute's Choice) & Acatour (Sebring-Adonia Queen, by Cherokee Run). This was the first stakes victory for Peacock who improved his record to 2 wins and 2 placings (including the Listed VRC Poseidon Stakes) from 6 starts for $132,060 earnings. A homebred for Godolphin, Peacock is out of the well bred Commands mare Iridescente, a half-quarter sister to dual Gr1 winning Hong Kong sprinter Absolute Champion and a three-quarter sister to Gr1 South African Derby winner Wylie Hall. This is the outstanding Voltage family that includes champion galloper Grand Armee, Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner Dealer Principal, Gr1 Australasian Oaks winner Anamato, and Gr1 Oakleigh Plate winner Drum.
