Spieth Wins Listed City Tattersalls Lightning

Monday, 17th October 2016

At Royal Randwick in Sydney on Saturday, Windsor Park Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning stallion Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) added a black-type success when highly talented 4YO entire Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) scored by 0.8 length for trainer Bryce Heys in the $150,000 Listed City Tattersalls Lightning (1100m) for 3YO+, over 5YO gelding Kaepernick (Fastnet Rock-Volcada, by Stravinsky) & 6YO gelding Le Cordon Bleu (Snitzel-Ultimate Fever, by Gold Fever). Despite missing the start by nearly two lengths, Spieth showed his class to register his maiden stakes victory and advance his record to 5 wins and 1 placing from 8 starts for $219,650 earnings. Spieth will head south to Melbourne where he holds an entry in the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington on 5 November. "I'm excited about where this horse goes next but I'll let him get over this first," trainer Bryce Heys told Sky Racing. "We have a plan in place if he could win today and we will decide by the middle of the week but he will go to Melbourne." A $200,000 purchase at the 2014 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, Spieth is a direct descendent of the Chop Chop mare Ciboulette, dam of celebrated blue hen Fanfreluche. This is the family of former champion Australian sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago and dual Gr1-winning former Coolmore shuttler Holy Roman Emperor.
