Capitalist Won't Run If Wet

Tuesday, 18th October 2016

Co-trainer Paul Snowden says last season's Golden Slipper winner Capitalist will not run in Friday night's Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley if the track is rain affected, reports ANZ Bloodstock News. “If it’s a wet track he’ll be pulled out and we’ll save him for the Coolmore [Gr1], so it’s not a 100 per cent thing that he has to run as he’s a dry track horse,” said Snowden, who trains the star colt in partnership with his father Peter. “If there is a bit of drizzle around at all he won’t be running.” Snowden said Capitalist is in top form heading into the $1 million sprint feature, and that he was pleased with his first-up performance when third behind Russian Revolution and Astern in the Gr2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) in Sydney 2.5 weeks ago. “On the times, Capitalist was 0.12 of a second slower for his last 600 metres than Astern,” he said. “They are all carrying on about the other horse (Astern), but Capitalist is going very well."
