Moonee Valley A Good Fit For Barman

Tuesday, 18th October 2016

Chris Waller believes the Gr2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m) on Saturday is the ideal race for Who Shot Thebarman (Yamanin Vital-Ears Carol, by Carolingian) to prepare for another shot at the Melbourne Cup, reports NZ Racing Desk. "I like the Moonee Valley track as it's quite forgiving," Waller said. "Who Shot Thebarman has a high rating, but gets in under the set-weights and penalties conditions of the race well." The New Zealand-bred and owned stayer finished third behind Protectionist in the 2014 edition of the Melbourne Cup before an unplaced run last year. The 2014 Auckland Cup winner is coming off a 7th placing in the Gr1 Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick on 1 October. Prior to that he was an excellent second in the Gr2 Hill Stakes (2000m) behind Godolphin star Hartnell, rated by many as the number one challenger to Winx's standing as Australia's best racehorse.
