Tauranga Next For Smart Kiwi Filly

Tuesday, 18th October 2016

Graham Richardson is now looking to Tauranga at the end of the month to belatedly launch unbeaten filly Volpe Veloce's 3YO season, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She'll probably go there on the 29th, there's a $7000 race for her but it's not about the money, it's about getting her a run," the Matamata trainer said. The aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", has won her only two starts to date including the Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) at Wanganui in June, but this season has been one of frustration. She was a late scratching before the Gr3 Gold Trail Stakes after lashing out in the gates, then missed a race at Te Rapa with an elevated temperature, and Richardson was forced to withdraw her from Rotorua on Saturday due to the heavy going. By Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock), Volpe Veloce is being aimed at the New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton on 12 November.
