Bowman Delighted With Winx

Wednesday, 19th October 2016

Hugh Bowman, the man entrusted with riding superstar mare Winx in Saturday's 96th running of the Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m), says he is very pleased after drawing barrier three for the $3 million weight-for-age feature. Winx, who will be shooting for her 13th consecutive win on Saturday, will be out to defend her title after her stunning 4.75-length win in last year's Cox Plate in which she smashed Might And Power's course record that had stood since 1998. "Well I didn't want barrier one or two, so I am satisfied with barrier three. [It's] all good at this stage," Bowman told Melbourne's Radio Sport National. "She didn't do a whole lot this morning but she had a very good gallop on Saturday morning and it was enough to tell me that we are in business." He added: "I don't know if she is better [than last year] but she is very strong, and she has continued to thrive this preparation; she couldn't be in better shape."
