Shillelagh Comes Through Tristarc Unscathed

Wednesday, 19th October 2016

The connections of Shillelagh are counting themselves lucky that the talented Kiwi mare didn't suffer any major injury when she was stopped in her tracks at Caulfield last weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. Not for the first time during her Australian campaign the lightly-raced Savabeel 5YO was luckless when tailing the field home in Saturday's Gr2 Tristarc Stakes after copping a severe check in the straight. Shillelagh will make her next appearance in the Gr3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (formerly the Maybe Mahal Stakes) over 1400 metres on Melbourne Cup day (Tuesday, 1st November). "She got out of it well really," said Stephen Autridge, who trains Shillelagh with Jamie Richards. "She only had half a run. She lost a bit of skin, but she ate up so we're happy about that." He added: "At this stage she'll run in a fillies and mares' race on Melbourne Cup day."
