Manikato The Race For Capitalist: Snowden
Co-trainer Peter Snowden is confident tonight's $1 million Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley is a more suitable assignment for star colt Capitalist than the Coolmore Stud Stakes scheduled to be run a week later. "I think it's the right race for him. All the way along, we've looked at the Coolmore and the Manikato, and being a week apart, we had to choose one over the other," Snowden told racing.com. Capitalist, crowned champion Australian 2YO last season, is the only 3YO in this year's Manikato field and must take on older stars such as Chautauqua and Buffering, but Snowden is undaunted by the challenge. "There's more than just Chautauqua in the race," he said. "I'm happy with my bloke. He's drawn a nice gate. We've been there [Moonee Valley] a couple of times for work, and he's handled it quite well so fingers crossed." Capitalist (Written Tycoon-Kitalpha, by Fusaichi Pegasus) will be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy and has drawn favourably in barrier six.
