Yankee Rose At Peak For Cox Plate

Friday, 21st October 2016

Trainer David Vandyke says there will be no excuses for Yankee Rose (All American-Condesaar, by Xaar) in tomorrow's Gr1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley, reports AAP. The last start Spring Champion Stakes winner will be taking on older rivals for the first time in the $3 million feature. Yankee Rose, who will be ridden by Dean Yendall and carry just 47.5 kilograms under the weight-for-age scale, is currently on the third line of betting with French star Vadamos at $15. Superstar mare Winx, shooting for back-to-back Cox Plate wins, is the $1.85 favourite, while the in form Hartnell is at $3.20. "I'm pretty excited about Saturday as we're competing in such a prestigious race," Vandyke said. "She has to put in a career-best performance to be competitive but we've been around here [the Moonee Valley track] twice which is a big plus." He added: "She's on top of her game and there's no improvement in her fitness-wise. She's ready to get out there and show her best."
