Chocolate Holic Wins Listed Northam Cup

Monday, 24th October 2016

At Northam in Western Australia on Sunday, Scenic Lodge's VRC Derby-winning sire Blackfriars (Danehill-Kensington Gardens, by Grosvenor) added a black-type success when 4YO gelding Chocolate Holic (Blackfriars-World Famous, by Geiger Counter) let down with a brilliant turn of foot to score by 2.25 lengths for trainers Grant & Alana Williams in the $125,000 Listed Northam Cup (1600m) for 3YO+, over 8YO gelding Young Lionel (Blackfriars-Prime Again, by Marooned) & 6YO gelding Ihtsahymn (Ihtiram-Umatune, by Umatilla). This was the first stakes victory for the exciting Chocolate Holic who advanced his record to 6 wins and 2 placings from 8 starts for $239,100 earnings. Bred by his co-trainer Alana Williams, Chocolate Holic is now likely to head to next month's Gr3 RJ Peters Stakes (1500m) at Ascot in attempt to qualify for the $1 million Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) during the Perth summer carnival. "We decided that if he won we would keep having a throw at the stumps while he's racing so well," said Alana William's husband and training partner, Grant Williams. "We might go to the Peters now to see if we can't get into the Railway."
