Rivet Wins Gr1 Racing Post Trophy
At Doncaster in the UK, Coolmore's former Gr1-winning Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Group success when 2YO Irish-bred colt Rivet (Fastnet Rock-Starship, by Galileo) scored by 1.75 lengths for trainer William Haggas in the Gr1 Racing Post Trophy (8 furlongs) for 2YOs, over fellow 2YO colts Yucatan (Galileo-Six Perfections, by Celtic Swing) & Salouen (Canford Cliffs-Gali Gal, by Galileo). This was the first top flight victory for Rivet who improved his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Champagne Stakes) and 1 placing from 5 starts for £210,481 earnings. Rivet will now be sent for a break before returning to prepare for next year's classics. "The Guineas is an obvious target but we will wait and see how he comes through the winter," said Maureen Haggas, wife and assistant to trainer William Haggas. "He clearly stays the mile well, and as he is out of a Galileo mare he'll probably stay a mile and quarter but you can't tell from his work at home how far he will stay." Rivet is owned by legendary jockey Lester Piggott - Maureen Haggas' father - in partnership with John Magnier and Michael Tabor.
