At Kyoto in Japan, 3YO colt Satono Diamond (Deep Impact-Malpensa, by Orpen) finally broke through at the elite level when scoring an emphatic 2.5 length win for trainer Yasutoshi Ikee in the final leg of the 3YO Triple Crown - the ¥248 million Gr1 Kikuka Sho (3000m) - over fellow 3YO colts Rainbow Line (Stay Gold-Regenbogen, by French Deputy) & Air Spinel (King Kamehameha-Air Messiah, by Sunday Silence). A son of champion Japanese racehorse and superstar sire Deep Impact, Saton Diamond advanced his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Kobe Shimbun Hai) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Tokyo Yushun & Gr1 Satsuki Sho) from 7 starts for ¥371,562,000 earnings.
