At Moonee Valley in Melbourne, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) celebrated an elite success when the Lloyd & Nick Williams-owned 7YO Irish-bred entire The United States (Galileo-Beauty is Truth, by Pivotal) scored by 1 length for trainer Robert Hickmott in the $200,000 Gr2 Schweppes Crystal Mile (1600m) for 3YOs, over 8YO French-bred entire Lidari (Acclamation-Laxlova, by Linamix) & 5YO gelding Ulmann (Sebring-Darsini, by Danehill). The United States advanced his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Ranvet Stakes, Gr3 Moonee Valley Gold Cup & Gr3 Kilternan Stakes) and 5 placings from 19 starts for $1,712,521 earnings. Owner Nick Williams confirmed that The United States will now head to the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (formerly the Mackinnon Stakes) over 2000m at Flemington on Saturday, 5 November. "All things being equal it is onwards to the Emirates Stakes (Mackinnon Stakes) on the final day of the carnival," Williams told racing.com.
