Classy Mare Set For Myer Return

Tuesday, 25th October 2016

Unbeaten Gr1-winning mare Abbey Marie (Redoute's Choice-Catshaan, by Catrail) is set to make a belated spring appearance in Saturday's Gr1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington, reports ANZ Bloodstock News. The beautifully bred Abbey Marie - who is a full-sister to Australian Oaks winner Absolutely - marked herself as one of the most exciting horses in the country when claiming her first Gr1 victory at just her third career start in the Gr1 Australasian Oaks in May. Trainer Mick Kent said a track gallop today will determine whether she lines up on the weekend after a combination of illness and wet tracks have interrupted her campaign. “She had time off after she got a bug for three or four weeks, so she had to have more time off and we are well behind with her,” Kent said. “I would have preferred to go into this race second up rather than first up, but she is all good at this stage." He added: "She was always going to be back in the later part of the spring with a view to the autumn, but we ran out of time to give her another run.”
