Purton Reunited With Sacred Elixir

Tuesday, 25th October 2016

Hong Kong based jockey Zac Purton will ride favourite Sacred Elixir in Saturday's $1.5 million Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington, reports theinformant.co.nz. Purton replaces Damien Lane who partnered the 3YO to an impressive win in last Saturday's Gr2 Vase at Moonee Valley. "Zac has had first call on the ride all spring but this is the first time he has been able to commit due to the Hong Kong Jockey Club rules," explained Bruce Sherwin, the New Zealand-based representative for Sacred Elixir's owners Raffles Racing. Trainer Tony Pike said Sacred Elixir had pulled up from his weekend assignment in terrific order. "He had to clear a tricky spot on the turn but it was a pretty comfortable win in the end," Pike said. "When I checked him over on Sunday morning he was very bright, so it's all go for next Saturday." Sacred Elixir (Pour Moi-Baltika, by Stravinsky) is currently the $3.20 favourite for the Derby ahead of the Robbie Laing-trained So Si Bon at $7.
