Fillies' Classic For La Diosa

Wednesday, 26th October 2016

The Gr1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas remains the top priority for La Diosa, reports NZ Racing Desk. The leading southern three-year-old is also nominated for the New Zeaand 2000 Guineas, but taking on her fellow sex in the fillies classic at Riccarton on 12 November is the preferred option. "She definitely won't run in both," said Matt Brown, who trains La Diosa with his wife Mandy. "The owners are just leaving it for a few days in case the weather looked like it may pack up for the third day. The colts do look a lot stronger so there's no point in flogging her against them if we don't have to." He added: "We couldn't be happier with her so fingers crossed it continues." By former Champion Australian Racehorse So You Think (High Chaparral-Triassic, by Tights), La Diosa is out of Gr2 winning Star Way mare Star Affair and is a half sister to Gr3 AJC Summer Cup winner Solid Billing and dual Listed winner Thy. Star Affair, herself, is a daughter of The Grin and a granddaughter of The Dimple and consequently hails from the same family as NZ 1000 Guineas winner The Jewel and Gr1 Auckland Cup winner Irish Chance.
