Francis Of Assisi Wins Gr3 Bendigo Cup

Thursday, 27th October 2016

At Bendigo in Victoria, former Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) added a Group success when 7YO Irish-bred gelding Francis Of Assisi (Danehill Dancer-Queen Cleopatra, by Kingmambo) scored by 3 lengths for trainer Charlie Appleby in the $300,000 Gr3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Second Bullet (Encosta de Lago-Private Steer, by Danehill Dancer) & 6YO Irish-bred gelding Our Century (Montjeu-Mixed Blessing, by Lujain). The Godolphin-owned Francis Of Assisi improved his record to 7 wins (including the Listed Knockaire Stakes at Leopardstown) and 2 placings from 17 starts for $306,740 earnings. James Ferguson, stable representative for Godolphin, said Francis Of Assisi was likely to have his next Australian start in either the Gr3 VRC Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) on 5 November, or the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) on 12 November. "He is in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and also the Sandown Cup, so there are plenty of options which Charlie and the team back home will look at but at the end of the day Sheikh Mohammed will make the final decision," Ferguson told racing.com.
