Smart Filly Out Of Guineas Reckoning

Friday, 28th October 2016

Honey Rider (Pins-Southern Heights, by Align) is out of the Gr1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She jarred up a bit in the Sarten so she's gone to the paddock to freshen-up," said Andrew Forsman, who prepares the Pins filly with Murray Baker. Successful last season and runner-up in the Listed Castletown Stakes, Honey Rider was an impressive winner of the Gr3 Gold Trail Stakes in her three-year-old debut. She then failed to handle the testing track conditions at Hawera when unplaced against the older horses in the Gr3 Taranaki Breeders' Stakes before she was out of the money in the Gr2 James & Annie Sarten Memorial at Te Rapa. Honey Rider is out of the Align mare Southern Heights, a half-sister to Gr1 Telegraph Handicap winner Adventador and Gr3 Newcastle Cup winner Winning Glory. This is the famous Wuthering Heights (NZ) family of outstanding 5-time Gr1 winner Battle Heights, Caulfield Cup & Australian Derby winner Sky Heights, and Melbourne Cup & Caulfield Cup winner Viewed.
