Debt Collector Wins Gr1 Raffles Cup
At Kranji racecourse in Singapore, Windsor Park Stud's ill-fated Gr1-winning stallion Thorn Park (Spinning World-Joy, by Bluebird) celebrated an elite success when 4YO NZ-bred gelding Debt Collector (Thorn Park-Prompt Payment, by In the Wings) scored by 0.5 length for trainer Cliff Brown in the second leg of the Singapore Triple Crown Series - the S$700,000 Gr1 Raffles Cup (1800m) for 3YO+ - over 6YO Argentinian-bred entire Quechua (Pure Prize-Queen Cabaret, by Wild Event) & 6YO NZ-bred gelding War Affair (O'Reilly-Kristique, by Kris S). Debt Collector went through the Karaka sale ring twice, fetching $30,000 as a yearling before being offered by Prima Park at the 2014 NZB Ready to Run Sale where he was purchased by his trainer Cliff Brown for $120,000. Sunday's win confirmed Debt Collector's status as the new star of Singapore racing and boosted his impressive record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Kranji Mile, Gr1 Singapore Guineas & Gr3 Jumbo Jet Trophy) from 10 starts.
