More Than Ready Adds South Africa Gr2
At Kenilworth in South Africa, high profile Vinery shuttler More Than Ready (Southern Halo-Woodman's Girl, by Woodman) added a Group success when 3YO Australian-bred filly Ektifaa (More Than Ready-Stellar Vinia, by Redoute's Choice) scored by 0.5 length for trainer Mike de Kock in the Gr2 Choice Carriers Championship (1400m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO fillies Sail (Philanthropist-Cutty Sark, by Fort Wood) & Final Judgement (Judpot-Final Claim, by Proclaim). Purchased by Shadwell Australia for $600,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Segenhoe Stud, Ektifaa is out of a half-sister to Gr1 Easter Handicap winner Calveen (Canny Lad), Gr2 Emancipation Stakes winner Kosi Bay (Spinning World), Gr3 ATC Widden Stakes winner Fireworks, and Listed Anniversary Handicap winner Striker (Van Nistelrooy). This is also the family of Gr1 South Australian Derby winner English Wonder, dam of ill-fated four-time Gr1 winning sire Dr Grace (Sir Tristram) as well as South Australian Oaks winner Asia (Danehill). Ektifaa improved her record to 3 wins and 3 placings from 6 starts. Ektifaa may now target the Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas as her next assignment. "Her pedigree suggests that the mile will be her maximum, she will be stretched, but she is a scopey filly and if she draws well we may take our chances. She is a scopier filly than Entisaar, who was beaten in the Choice Carriers last year and didn't quite see out the Guineas mile," trainer Mike de Kock said on his website.
