France Bids Au Revoir To Rivals
Beautifully bred colt France (Redoute's Choice-Miss Marielle, by Encosta de Lago) opened his account at the second time of asking when scoring a first-up win over 1200 metres at Canterbury yesterday. Bred by the Kelly family's Newhaven Park, France is the second foal to race from the Gr2 Hill Stakes & Gr3 Craven Plate winner Miss Marielle, herself a three-quarter sister to Newgate Farm's Gr2-winning and G1-placed sire Eurozone (Northern Meteor). France is also a full-brother to top mare Peeping, winner of the Gr1 Coolmore Classic last autumn. "He did a good job. He's come back a better and stronger horse. He's got a fantastic attitude and a great pedigree; he's just a brilliant horse to work with," said Peter Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul. "He's improved out of sight this preparation and is still a bit soft and new, but he's definitely got the talent." He added: "These sorts of horses that I've had in the past usually go on to be handy horses." France was purchased for $475,000 by The China Horse Club & Michael Wallace Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
